The Future
The non-profit Friends of the Port Townsend Golf Park, now Camas Prairie Park, was formed, not only because our historic golf course was in danger of being closed, but also because its potential was not being realized in a community that has been recreationally underserved for decades.
Along with restoration and improvements in our 9 hole course, with your help over the next few years, expect big changes in the Park. Some will happen quickly, like the addition of Disc Golf and Foot Golf. Plans are already underway for events and concerts on the driving range amphitheater, which you will be able to enjoy in the spring and summer of 2024. Non-golf times are being scheduled where people and families can enjoy the open space, picnic, go for a run, or simply wander the grounds.
Trails and walkways are being designed and assessed for safety but we expect the east-west trail to be available by this coming summer.
Some improvements will take time. Elements such as the Putt-Putt course and playground will need site modifications and planning as well as funding. Native plants and the camas prairie will take time to get established.
Long term, a covered driving range and expansion of the Welcome Center and restaurant will require design work and significant capital funding.
We'll get there with your help. In the meantime, come out and play.
