About Us

Friends of the Port Townsend / Camas Prairie Park

We are a Port Townsend based non-profit organization (501(c)(3) applied for) founded in October of 2023 to restore and enhance the historic Port Townsend Golf Course.  Saddled with years of short term leases and deferred maintenance, the City of Port Townsend City Council commissioned a study to consider options for the property.  When it appeared that the course would likely be closed and left with no budget for maintenance the Friends group was formed.

Our goals were clear:

Environmental Stewardship: To manage our 58 acres of public property and open space on a sustainable basis and nurture the camas Prairie, native plantings, and wildlife that encompasses this community resource.

Community Access: The park should be a gathering place for our community, a gateway for exercise, and a place to enjoy the passion for golf in its many forms as well as a venue for community events and activities for citizens of all ages.

Financial Sustainability: Our goal is for the operations of the Golf Park to be financially sustainable from user fees and successful in attracting capital investment that requires minimal city financial support.

Transparency & Reporting: Our goal is to provide accurate and regular reporting building trust and greater accountability to the city and people we serve.
